It was on November 14, 1889, that Jawahar Lal Nehru was born. His father was Moti Lal Nehru and his Mother was Swarup Rani. They lived in the city of Allahabad which is on the banks of the Ganges. They were rich enough to live a comfortable life. A teacher came to Jawahar Lal's house every day to teach him. He learned his lessons at home. He was always active. He loved swimming and horse riding. One day Jawahar Lal saw two pens on the table in his father’s room. One was blue and another was black. He took the blue pen and put it into his pocket.

Moti Lal Nehru came to his room after some time. He did not see the blue pen on his table. He searched for it but did not find it. Although Jawahar watched him, he said nothing.

The next day Moti Lal Nehru saw the blue pen on Jawahar’s table. He got Angry. He took a cane and beat Jawahar Severely.

He said to him, “You should not be a coward. You ought to speak the truth boldly.”

Jawahar learned a good lesson.

Jawahar went to England in 1905. He studied law and became a lawyer. In the summer of 1910, he went to Norway on holiday. He had an English Friend with him. Both of them went to a river to swim.

They got into the water. Jawahar slipped and the strong current swept him downstream. His friend who was a brave young man caught Jawahar’s hand and dragged him out of the water.

Jawahar returned to India in 1912. At that time the Indians were fighting against the British for India’s freedom. He joined them and carried on the fight.

The Government sent him to jail a number of times. The fight for freedom went on for many years. On August 15, 1947, India became free. Jawahar Lal Nehru was the first prime minister of our country.

One day he visited a small village. He saw hundreds of children there. One small child went up to him and said, “Chacha Nehru”, here is a rose for you. “ Nehru lifted the child up and kissed her. He said.” From now on, celebrate my birthday in the name of children. ” So his birthday is celebrated as ‘Children’s Day’.

Soon Nehru became world-famous. He died on May 27, 194. Millions of people were in tears.
