Jealousy

Value Learning

Begin with a minute’s silence and daily prayers.

The value of the day is learning.

Everyone has qualities. God has made some people more beautiful than you. There are people who have more money. There are others who are more intelligent than you. God has given you many qualities. You look better than most people. So many people have less money than you have. You don’t have to feel proud or jealous. You must learn to enjoy what God has given you. Don’t worry about what others have. Enjoy what you have!

Maya had a beautiful watch. Sonia was jealous. She picked up Maya’s watch and threw it on the floor. Later, she said ‘sorry’ to Maya. Is that right? Why not? Think about it.

Alia and Deepika were both brilliant girls. Both did well in their studies. Both took part in sports and acted in school plays. Both were equally liked by their classmates and teachers.

The examination results were out. In the annual exam results, marks from the monthly tests were also counted. Alia stood first, scoring over Deepika by ten marks. She was given the gold medal. Deepika got the silver. That night Deepika could not sleep.  How could Alia be better than her? The thought kept troubling Deepika endlessly. There must be some way to make the others believe that she was better than Alia. A wicked plan soon took shape in Deepika’s mind.

The next morning Deepika took her father’s expensive golden pen to school. “This is the prize I got from my father for doing well in class,” She told the girls. Everyone admired the pen.

But as soon as the science class was over, there was chaos in the class. Deepika’s pen was missing from her bag. Someone had stolen it. “I have to find my pen. It is of great value to me and it is worth a lot of money,” Shouted Deepika. “I don’t care if have to go through the bags of all the girls but the pen has to be found!”

The girls looked upset but agreed to Deepika’s demand. The search began. Alia offered her bag to Deepika with a smile.

“I am sorry Alia but please understand my plight,” said Deepika looking into Alia’s bag.

“O, My God!” Here is my pen! How could you do it, Alia? How could you steal? Went on Deepika.

Alia was totally dumbfounded. Tears ran down her cheeks and she stood there like a statue. The girls looked at one another. Just then the Geography teacher entered the class and everyone became quiet. After that life became miserable for Alia. No one would ask her to join them. Alia was left alone and termed a ‘Thief.’ She had no one to talk to and no one to play with.

One day a class teacher found Alia sitting alone in the classroom during the break.

“What is the matter, Alia? Are you feeling OK?” asked the teacher.

Alia could not hold herself anymore. She told the whole incident to the teacher. The teacher listened to Alia patiently.

The next day Deepika was asked to see the Principal after school. The principal asked Deepika many questions. Deepika was scared. She confessed that she herself had placed the pen in Alia’s bag while everyone was in the playground.

The Principal gave Deepika a warning and told her never to make such a mistake again. She was made to apologize to Alia in front of the whole class so that the other girls would realize that Alia was innocent. Deepika had learned a lesson for life.

Note: In friendship, we must not cheat on each other.
