Krishna and Sudama
Value
Friendship
Begin with
a minute’s silence and daily prayers
The value
of the day is friendship
Though
Krishna and Sudama were from very different backgrounds, they were still good
friends. Krishna and Sudama were friends at school and their friendship lasted
forever. This is because true friends help each other and make each other
happy.
To be a
good friends, we must get to know our friends and understand what they need to
make them happy. We must care for our friends.
Ritesh and Kushihal
study in the same class. Both are good students and complete with each other
for the first rank in class. Ritesh always scores higher marks than Kushihal in
Mathematics while Kushihal tops the class in English.
One day Ritesh
does not come to school. The teacher announces a test Mathematics the next day.
If Ritesh does not know about the test, she will not study for it. She will not
be prepared and Kushihal will be able to score higher marks.
Think, what
would happen if:
1)
Kushihal
informs Ritesh about the test.
2)
Kushihal
does not inform Ritesh about the test.
As boys,
Krishna and Sudama were good friends. It didn't matter to them that Krishna was
rich and Sudama was poor. They study together and played together. Later,
Krishna became the king of Dwarka. Sudama became a respected teacher with a
large family. He remained poor.
Sudama’s wife asked him to seek help from his friend Krishna. She made a
special rice dish as a gift for Krishna. With the gift carefully stored within
the folds of his old shawl, Sudama started on the journey to Krishna Palace.
When
Krishna saw Sudama coming, he runs out to welcome him. After making sure that
Sudama was comfortable, Krishna asked him how everyone was. Sudama brought out
the gift that his wife had sent. He was feeling a little ashamed of a simple gift
but Krishna was very happy when he saw the rice dish. He ate it at once and
enjoyed every bite.
All through
the stay Sudama could not bring himself to ask Krishna for help. He left without
saying a word about his problems but a big surprise awaited him at home.
Instead of his little hut, there was a big mansion. His wife explained what had
happened. While Sudama was staying at the palace, Krishna had sent his men to
build this lovely home and take care of their needs. Sudama felt tears of
happiness come to his eyes as he realized that Krishna was indeed a true
friend.
