Silly Misunderstanding

There lived a Sculptor in a village. He used to make very beautiful idols. Once he crafted an idol of a goddess that was a real beauty. He had to deliver it to his customer who lived in another village. So, he borrowed the donkey of his washerman friend. The sculptor set out with the goddess idol loaded on the donkey. The idol was so impressive that whoever saw it stopped and bowed with folded hands to the goddess to pay respect. It happened all the way.

The Silly Donkey thought that the people were making obeisance to him. The idea filled him with pride. He Stopped and began to cry loudly to sound his greatness. The Sculptor tried to silence him gently.

He revealed to the donkey that the people were not making obeisance to it but to the goddess idol, it was carrying.

But the donkey would not believe it. A Real Ass it was. It continued to believe that the people were paying their respects to it.

The Donkey brayed on. So, that Sculptor thrashed the donkey good with the thick stick. The beating put back the better sense in the donkey and made it realize that it was an ass. Now, the donkey walked silently with its head down.
